ASOT Kit (Anti-Streptolysin O)

Antistreptolysin titre test (ASOT)is a blood test that checks for a Strep infection. When you come into contact with harmful bacteria, your body produces antibodies to defend itself against these bacteria.

The (ASOT) Antistreptolysin O titer test  or the Antistreptolysin  O titer serum test is used to test for the presence of the Streptococcus pyogenes bacteria which cause many serious medical conditions.

Antibodies are specific to the bacteria they fight. The Antistreptolysin titre test(ASOT) measures antibodies produced by your body in response to a toxin known as streptolysin O.

You will need the test if you have symptoms of a previous infection by group A streptococcus. Some illnesses caused by this bacteria are:

1. Bacterial endocarditis, an infection of the inner lining of your heart
2. A kidney problem called glomerulonephritis
3. Rheumatic fever, which can affect the heart, joints, or bones
4. Scarlet fever
5. Strep throat
